Guardian Press Release

“Taco Fest Tankque” to First Responders and Bergen Community

October 15, 2020 – Guardian Data Destruction along with the Steve Rich Group, local businesses and many volunteers staffed and donated food, supplies and funds to the “Taco Fest Tankque to the Unsung Heroes” on Saturday, October 10th in the parking lot of the Park Ridge Pool on Colony Avenue. The community-supported event was a culmination of a month-long food drive to benefit the Triboro Food Pantry.

Organizer and local resident Steve Rich donated his behemoth wood-fired and portable Tankque — a cooking machine made from recycled oil tanks (see www.tankque.com). Fired completely by wood, the Tankque cooked 1000 lbs of chicken that day using its integrated smoker, three rotisseries, and two four-foot barbecues.

Frontline workers pulled into the parking lot to pick up their taco order safely. Volunteers worked the grill, gathered food donations, and delivered taco meals to nursing homes and other dedicated frontline workplaces. Any community members contributing to the food drive that day were also provided tacos through the temporary drive through. Overall, the event generated over 17 pallets of donated food for the pantry.

The Tri-Boro Food Bank (also referred to as the Pascack Valley Food Bank) has a wide geographic reach. Janelle Larghi, pantry volunteer, noted that the food pantry “helps families from Bergen, Passaic and Rockland counties and certainly will keep that going with this drive and taco event.”

The event would not have been a success without the generous donations of Goya Foods, B&M Meat Market, Marc’s Deli and Pizza, Jack’s Cafe, Rent a Tent and Wegman’s. The organizers also extend their special thanks to Park Ridge Mayor Keith Misciagna and the Council for their enthusiastic efforts to put this event together.

Glenn Laga, long time Park Ridge resident and President of Guardian Data Destruction, coordinated event logistics and COVID-19 hygiene guidelines with disinfection and wearing masks and gloves. “As a long-time Park Ridge resident, I am thrilled to again be a part of this community-based thank you. I’m particularly grateful to Goya Foods for donating to the event and the food drive.”
